This path was constructed on the west bank of the Rhine-Schie Canal, which was dug there in 1892 to cut off the sharp bend from the city girth to the Noordeinde. This part is dug in the municipality of Vrijenban, after which the quay is named.

Former double bridge watchman's house, built for Provincial Public Works in 1894 as part of the construction of the Rhine-Schie Canal at the Reinveldse Bridge that was used. Design by H. de Mol van Otterloo, in an eclectic architectural style with influences from the Neo-Renaissance and the chalet style.
